China Summons Nvidia Over H20 Chip Security Concerns

Bloomberg

Beijing, China – The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) has reportedly summoned representatives from Nvidia Corp., the world’s most valuable chipmaker, to discuss alleged security risks associated with its H20 artificial intelligence chips. This development casts a notable shadow over Nvidia’s significant business operations within China, occurring just weeks after the company’s co-founder, Jensen Huang, held meetings with senior Chinese officials.

The Chinese internet watchdog convened the meeting to address what it described as “serious security vulnerabilities” identified within Nvidia’s advanced AI chip. In a statement, the CAC explicitly referenced comments made by U.S. lawmakers regarding the potential necessity to incorporate tracking capabilities into sophisticated chips sold to other nations. The agency has requested Nvidia’s staff to provide detailed explanations for these potential risks and to submit all necessary documentation, though it did not elaborate further on the specific nature of the alleged vulnerabilities or the precise documents requested.
