SiMa.ai Secures $85M for Global Edge AI Expansion
AI innovator SiMa.ai has successfully closed an oversubscribed funding round, securing $85 million in new capital. This latest investment was led by Maverick Capital, with new participant StepStone Group also joining, bringing SiMa.ai’s total capital raised to $355 million. Existing investors also demonstrated continued confidence by participating in this round.
The funding arrives as SiMa.ai solidifies its position in the burgeoning Physical AI market, which focuses on delivering AI capabilities directly on devices at the “edge” of the network. This approach provides power-efficient, high-performance AI solutions for a diverse range of industries. The demand for such on-device intelligence is rapidly expanding across sectors including robotics, automotive, industrial automation, aerospace, smart vision, and healthcare.
Krishna Rangasayee, Founder and CEO at SiMa.ai, commented on the investment, stating, “This new funding further validates our leadership in the Physical AI space and the growing demand for Physical AI solutions that deliver best-in-class performance per watt with industry-leading ease of use.”
The newly acquired capital is earmarked for several strategic initiatives. SiMa.ai plans to accelerate its expansion into international markets, broaden the reach of its Physical AI platform, and significantly increase investment in software development. Funds will also be directed towards enhancing market outreach, bolstering customer success initiatives, and further developing its solutions for the automotive sector. The company aims to meet global customer demands more rapidly and advance its capabilities in industries requiring sophisticated AI at the edge.
Headquartered in San Jose, California, SiMa.ai was founded by experienced technology veterans. The company offers the SiMa.ai ONE platform, a full-stack Physical AI solution designed to simplify deployment and optimize performance through the integration of tailored silicon hardware and comprehensive software. The platform includes Modalix, SiMa.ai’s second-generation multimodal Machine Learning System-on-Chip (MLSoC), which is currently shipping to customers. Complementing the hardware is Palette, a robust software suite featuring an SDK and Edgematic, a user-friendly, no-code visual development tool. SiMa.ai’s unified architecture supports all major machine learning frameworks, including those for vision processing, transformers, and generative AI.
Andrew Homan, Managing Partner at Maverick Capital, expressed confidence in SiMa.ai’s approach: “SiMa.ai is redefining what’s possible at the edge by combining world-class silicon with a uniquely software-centric approach to Physical AI. Their ability to deliver high-performance, low-power solutions with frictionless deployment positions them to lead in a market that’s scaling fast.”
The oversubscribed nature of the funding round underscores the strong belief among investors in SiMa.ai’s strategy and growth potential. John Avirett, Partner at StepStone Group, highlighted the broader market trend, noting, “As generative AI transforms the data center landscape, we see immense opportunity in the next phase of innovation—AI at the edge. SiMa.ai’s full-stack solution, technical depth, and growing customer adoption make it a clear leader in this space.”
