As the current hype around AI swells, fueled by massive multi-billion-dollar deals and significant government backing, there’s a looming question of who will ultimately bear the cost if this unsustainable growth falters. History suggests that consumers often shoulder the burden when overextended industries collapse, particularly when the technology becomes so deeply embedded in daily life that companies are deemed “too big to fail” and subsequently bailed out.
While critics often claim Siri failed to keep pace with its rivals, its quiet legacy as a catalyst for public AI acceptance remains undeniable. The critical question for Siri’s future, and indeed for the broader AI landscape, revolves around privacy. Will Apple maintain its commitment to baking privacy into its algorithms, or will governments succeed in compelling companies to compromise data encryption? If privacy safeguards are eroded, it raises uncomfortable questions about how much more pervasive—and potentially intrusive—Siri could become compared to other AI services that already appear to prioritize privacy less.
