US-China AI Showdown: Race for Global Domination Intensifies

Nearly three years after the United States ignited the artificial intelligence boom, most of the world continues to strive for parity. Only one nation, China, stands as a close competitor in AI development.

Chinese technology firms, including DeepSeek, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., and Moonshot, have launched AI models that rival the capabilities of leading systems from their US counterparts. This rapid advancement is significantly propelled by the Chinese government, which has designated AI leadership a national priority. To achieve this, Beijing is implementing a comprehensive package of generous state support and establishing a national network of interconnected data processing hubs.

China's accelerated rise in AI has prompted considerable concern in Silicon Valley and Washington. In response, the Trump administration unveiled an AI Action Plan in July, advocating for reduced bureaucratic hurdles to facilitate the construction of more AI data centers and secure the necessary electricity to power them. President Donald Trump affirmed the US commitment, stating in a speech that the nation "will do whatever it takes to lead the world in artificial intelligence."
