iManage Unveils Enhanced AI Search & Assistant with MCP and Microsoft Integration
Chicago, Illinois – August 11, 2025 – iManage, a leading provider of AI-powered solutions for knowledge work, has unveiled significant enhancements to its platform, integrating advanced search capabilities and sophisticated AI assistant functionalities. These new features, set to be showcased at ILTACON 2025, aim to transform how professionals access and utilize their organizational knowledge, emphasizing security, traceability, and seamless workflow integration.
A cornerstone of this announcement is the implementation of Model Context Protocol (MCP) support. This new interoperability standard for artificial intelligence allows MCP-compatible AI applications to connect directly with the iManage Cloud without requiring custom, vendor-specific integrations. This innovation means AI applications can automatically discover available content and capabilities within the iManage Cloud, all while meticulously adhering to existing user permissions and access controls.
Neil Araujo, CEO of iManage, highlighted the strategic vision behind these advancements, stating, “Customer confidence in AI begins with the security of their organizational knowledge—their documents, emails, and institutional expertise—within iManage Work. This ensures professionals can access trusted, traceable AI-powered insights. By embedding intelligence directly into Microsoft 365, we empower professionals to leverage AI without ever leaving their familiar daily workflows.”
The company is delivering its AI Assistant capabilities through multiple complementary approaches, most notably with “Ask iManage.” Built natively within the iManage Work environment, Ask iManage integrates smoothly into existing legal workflows, providing transparent and traceable answers grounded in an organization’s own content. Furthermore, iManage’s integration with Microsoft Copilot extends knowledge stored in iManage Work directly into Microsoft applications, allowing legal professionals to intelligently leverage their content within their preferred Microsoft environment.
Among the key enhancements to Ask iManage are its new Conversational AI and Enhanced Evidence features. Conversational AI now supports multi-turn conversations, enabling users to ask follow-up questions, delve deeper into topics, and explore ideas more naturally, moving beyond simple Q&A. The Enhanced Evidence feature significantly boosts transparency by providing inline citations. Knowledge professionals can simply hover over a citation to instantly highlight the exact source in the document, while any information generated outside the verified source is clearly flagged, fostering greater confidence in AI-generated content.
Customers are already seeing tangible benefits from Ask iManage, particularly through the Wayfinder program, iManage’s initiative to drive AI user adoption. Kirk Scruggs, CIO at Bracewell LLP, shared his firm’s experience: “Ask iManage has become a key part of our AI toolkit, offering far more than basic document Q&A. The ‘Ask Across’ feature, in particular, has been invaluable for security assessments and document synthesis, leading to strong engagement from teams like litigation. Its scalability and user-friendly design, with features like reusable question lists, a saved question library, project-based content organization, and synthesized results, make it easy to demonstrate value and drive adoption. The support from iManage has also been exceptional, helping us track value, gather feedback, and cultivate internal champions to achieve real business impact.”
Alongside the AI assistant, iManage has introduced significant advancements to Insight+, its next-generation search and knowledge discovery engine built natively in the iManage Cloud. Insight+ provides knowledge professionals with a 360-degree view of their business, clients, and matters by surfacing insights previously hidden across disparate documents and systems. This empowers professionals to instantly answer complex questions, such as identifying partners with the highest success rates in specific jurisdictions or pinpointing documents that align with a particular legal strategy. Insight+ delivers fast, trusted results at the scale of a document management system by combining advanced search capabilities, iManage AI Classification & Enrichment, and contextual data from connected business systems, all without the need for additional point solutions.
Two notable Insight+ features launching at ILTACON include “Ask Knowledge” and “Matter Search.” Ask Knowledge leverages generative AI to allow users to search using plain language, receiving secure, contextual responses grounded in the organization’s proprietary expertise. Matter Search connects content with broader context, revealing trends in profitability, jurisdictional success, and precedent directly from existing data. These capabilities collectively reinforce “AI Confidence” by rooting search results in secure content with traceable, trustworthy insights that can be readily defended.
iManage continues to expand its robust 300-strong partner network, fostering deep collaborations with leading technology providers. The open partner ecosystem philosophy is exemplified by the MCP support, which facilitates governed access to iManage content by third-party AI applications. This strategic move enables iManage customers to deploy AI applications and intelligent agents that can autonomously orchestrate workflows across multiple systems. Instead of knowledge workers manually switching between disconnected applications, AI agents can intelligently coordinate tasks. For instance, a professional could instruct an AI agent to “review all my client’s commercial lease agreements in the Dallas, TX area within iManage and create follow-up tasks for my associates in their project management application to call landlords if there is no termination clause, then send calendar invites with a summary table of lease expiry dates.” The AI agent would seamlessly coordinate across all relevant systems to complete this multi-step workflow while upholding all security and ethical wall protections.
These innovations mark a significant step forward in enabling clients to securely leverage their knowledge in complex, AI-driven automated workflows, promising unprecedented productivity gains while maintaining the essential governance and security controls vital for professional services.
