New Addams Family Animation, Cyborg Film & Horror Sequels Revealed
The creative minds behind Netflix’s hit series Wednesday, showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, are set to delve deeper into the macabre world of the Addams Family. During a recent appearance on Deadline’s Crew Call podcast, Gough and Millar confirmed they are actively developing a brand-new animated Addams Family feature film. This upcoming project will stand entirely independent of both the live-action Wednesday series and the two previous animated films released in 2019 and 2021, signaling a fresh start for the iconic spooky clan on the big screen. The duo is collaborating with Amazon MGM, along with Kevin Miserocchi, who heads the Addams Foundation and was personally acquainted with Charles Addams, the original creator. Gail Berman and John Glickman are also on board, though details remain scarce as the project is still in its nascent stages.
In other film news, the surprisingly prolific “killer Winnie the Pooh” franchise is expanding with a third installment. Variety reports that Richard Stanley, known for his work on Hardware and The Color Out of Space, has been tapped to pen the script for Winnie The Pooh: Blood & Honey 3. Production on the next chapter of this darkly twisted take on A.A. Milne’s beloved character is slated to commence early next year.
Meanwhile, fans of the Caped Crusader eagerly await updates on The Batman, Part II. Speaking with Den of Geek, actor Jeffrey Wright, who portrays Commissioner Gordon, revealed he has yet to read the script for the sequel. However, Wright expressed enthusiasm, stating he has “heard some things” he likes and holds “huge respect” for director Matt Reeves’ ability to construct the intricate world of Gotham. He anticipates a “rich and satisfying” experience for both himself and audiences once production begins.
A cult classic is also getting a modern reimagining, as Fangoria unveiled a new poster and synopsis for Steven Kostanski’s remake of Deathstalker. The film promises a fantastical, action-packed narrative set in the Kingdom of Abraxeon, which finds itself under siege by the Dreadites. Their sinister goal is to resurrect the long-dead sorcerer Nekromemnon, an event that would spell the annihilation of Abraxeon. The story follows Deathstalker, who, after acquiring a cursed amulet from a fallen prince on a battlefield, teams up with an ally named Doodad. Together, they embark on a quest to rid Deathstalker of the dark magic-infused medallion while being relentlessly hunted by monstrous assassins.
Adding to the industry landscape, a new sci-fi/horror production company, Void Signal, has announced its formation and initial slate of releases. Partnering with Alliance Home Entertainment, Void Signal aims to distribute its films digitally and physically across North America, the U.K., and Ireland. Their first offering, The Healing, is set for an October 7 release. Starring Alyona Mitroshina, the film follows a woman escaping an abusive marriage to a mysterious retreat, where surreal rituals and haunting visions expose dark secrets. Following on October 14 is Mar.ia, described as a blend of Terminator and I Spit on Your Grave. Daria Panchenko stars as an erotic film actress who transforms into a vengeful cyborg, with William Prociuk, Magui Bravi, and Sofía Gala Castiglione in supporting roles. Rounding out their October releases on the 21st is Holy Mother, featuring Eihi Shiina as a silent trans woman battling a brutal organization with an arsenal of chainsaws, lasers, and relentless carnage.
On the television front, several popular series are gearing up for pivotal episodes. Spoiler TV released images from “Rend,” an upcoming episode of Revival, hinting that the truth behind “Revival Day” will be unveiled, albeit at a significant cost. Similarly, new stills from “The Shape of Time,” an episode of Apple TV+‘s Foundation, tease a violent, long-awaited reunion, Day’s search for Song, the opening of the Vault on New Terminus, and the Mule setting its sights on a new target. Meanwhile, the crew of the Enterprise appears to be in a more relaxed state in promotional images for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ upcoming episode, “The Sehlat Who Ate Its Tail,” where they are simply depicted “hanging out.” Finally, FX has released a “this season on…” trailer for its highly anticipated series, Alien: Earth, offering a broader glimpse into the terrifying new chapter of the iconic sci-fi horror franchise.
