Windows 11 Beta Build 26120.5751: New Copilot+ PC & UI Features
Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.5751 to the Beta Channel, offering an early look at features and fixes destined for the upcoming Windows 11, version 24H2. This update brings a mix of new functionalities, interface refinements, and crucial stability improvements, some of which are being gradually rolled out to Insiders, while others are available more broadly.
A significant enhancement in this build focuses on “Click to Do,” a new interaction feature, particularly for Copilot+ PCs. Users will now find more powerful and intuitive ways to select objects within the interface. The update introduces three new selection modes: Freeform Selection, Rectangle Selection, and Ctrl + Click. Freeform mode allows users to draw around desired items with a pen or finger, ideal for touch-enabled devices, making selection feel natural. Rectangle Selection offers a traditional drag-and-box method to capture multiple items. For keyboard and mouse users, the familiar Ctrl + Click now enables multi-selection of various entity types, including text and images. These additions aim to make “Click to Do” actions more efficient and fluid, allowing users to select diverse elements in a single gesture.
Beyond new features, Build 26120.5751 includes several user interface improvements and a host of bug fixes. File Explorer’s “Open with” context menu has been refined, removing the accent-colored background from app icons for better visibility and a cleaner look. On the taskbar, animations for mousing over app groups have been updated for a smoother visual experience.
A range of stability and usability fixes address common pain points. The taskbar no longer duplicates additional clocks in its date and time tooltip. For those testing the new Start menu, issues causing temporary smaller layouts, failure to open in safe mode, or misplaced context menus have been resolved. The visibility of the “Hide this pane” option for the mobile device companion in the Start menu has also been improved, especially when custom accent colors are enabled. File Explorer in dark mode now displays correct colors for low-space drives and remaining space, fixing previous inconsistencies. Login and Lock screen reliability has been enhanced, addressing issues with blank icons and system hangs. Furthermore, the update resolves a crash in Live Captions when attempting live translation on Copilot+ PCs and fixes Desktop Window Manager (DWM) crashes that some Insiders experienced, alongside an issue preventing screen interaction when hardware indicators were moved. Crucially, a fix has been deployed for “Click to Do” itself, resolving issues where text and image actions were non-functional or caused crashes.
As with all preview builds, some known issues persist. A notable challenge for some Insiders is an update installation rollback (error 0x80070005), which can often be resolved via the “Fix issues using Windows update” option in Settings. Users in the European Economic Area (EEA) might encounter issues with the Recall feature not functioning correctly, with a recommended workaround being to reset Recall through advanced settings. Other reported issues include the “Shared” section in File Explorer Home appearing even without content, and the “Temporary files” scanner in Settings getting stuck. For Xbox controller users experiencing system crashes (bugchecks) via Bluetooth, a specific driver uninstall workaround is provided in Device Manager.
Microsoft emphasizes that features introduced in these Beta Channel builds are still in active development. They are subject to change, may be removed, or might not be released publicly, as the company gathers feedback and refines concepts. Some features may not yet be fully localized. This phased rollout approach, often utilizing “Controlled Feature Rollout” technology, allows Microsoft to monitor performance and user feedback before wider deployment, ensuring a more stable and polished final release for Windows 11, version 24H2.
