Terry Matalas Reveals Vision Quest AI Details at STLV Convention

At the recent STLV convention, Terry Matalas, known for his work as showrunner on Star Trek: Picard, unveiled a series of Marvel-approved details concerning his highly anticipated upcoming series, Vision Quest.

The sci-fi drama is set to reunite Matalas with two familiar faces from Picard: Todd Stashwick and Orla Brady, who portrayed Captain Shaw and Laris/Tallinn, respectively. In Vision Quest, Brady will lend her talents to the voice of F.R.I.D.A.Y., Tony Stark’s artificial intelligence assistant, a role previously inhabited by Kerry Condon in the Marvel films. Stashwick, meanwhile, steps into the shoes of Paladin, a notable mercenary from Marvel Comics. Early announcements had characterized Stashwick’s role as an assassin tasked with tracking down Paul Bettany’s White Vision, the sentient android who emerged at the conclusion of WandaVision.

The series is assembling a formidable cast of artificial intelligences. Joining the roster is Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H., another Stark-created AI first seen in Spider-Man: Far From Home. The ensemble also features Ruaridh Mollica, T’Nia Miller, and Faran Tahir in undisclosed roles. Perhaps one of the most intriguing reveals involves the potential return of Ultron, the infamous sentient AI villain last portrayed by James Spader in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Matalas hinted at a “unique” utilization of the character, sparking considerable speculation among fans about how the iconic antagonist might factor into White Vision’s narrative.

Beyond the cast, Matalas offered insights into the show’s production environment, revealing that the Vision Quest team is heavily populated by Star Trek enthusiasts. This shared passion, he noted, allowed for a shorthand communication during production, fostering a distinct creative atmosphere. Matalas drew a compelling parallel between Vision’s journey in the new series and Spock’s arc in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. This comparison strongly suggests that the reawakened White Vision will grapple with significant challenges in reconnecting with his past memories, echoing Spock’s own struggle with identity and his re-established consciousness. The panel, while rich in narrative hints, did not provide any visual sneak peeks, such as a trailer or production photos, leaving fans to eagerly anticipate the series’ expected debut on Disney+ sometime in 2026.
